There's probably no better time to start a bike blog on Bike to Work week in this fine city of Winston-Salem.
Today May 12th, there is going to be a cycling social event at Krankie's Coffee on 211 E 3rd St. Known at the hippest hipster coffee shop in the city, and probably also as the worst parking lot in the entire city. It's actually so hip that this city planned social cycling event isn't even on Krankie's event calender. Probably so it doesn't look like they're collaborating with the man, or that they just have crappy website administration. Either one or both would not surprise me at all.
I actually can't stand the place, but I guess I can't really be a city bicycle blogger if I don't go to this thing and take a few pictures and write down a few quotes and all that.
Besides...there's supposed to be information there and I do love information.
The city is actually doing some pretty cool things when it comes to cycling and all of that jazz. They've got some pretty good bike routes for commuting along with some good greenways, bike racks downtown and plans to expand bike lanes. I'll have a post after the event to let everyone know how it went.
Now being that I'm acting all cat 6 journalist on this stuff I decided that I might actually have to prepare for some of this junk, so I dug around in my drawer for my camera battery charger to...well...charge my camera battery and hoped in the car (shit...there goes my street cred. Wait, I don't have street cred.) to take a trip down to the local big box office supply store to buy some notebooks.
It seems that tiny notebooks are in much lower demand than I remember them being. I grabbed a pack of three moderately sized hip looking notebooks and headed to the register then remembered that I was poor, so I put the notebooks back and got a bargain pin pack of three memo pads for three dollars. Besides I'd need to get a crappy cup of coffee at the event.
Hopefully they have free snacks.
